Pets: Keeping homes and companions happy

Nearly half of all households in the UK play host to a variety of different pets. Whilst pets act as the fun, loving companions we often need them to be, they can cause havoc when it comes to keeping the house clean.

Of course, the majority of homeowners who have pets will have accepted that being pet-friendly almost completely rules out the likelihood of an immensely clean carpet or consistently sparkling furniture.

So what can people do to improve the general cleanliness of their fabrics with mans-best-friend about the house on a regular basis? Here are a few tips to get you started…

Cats and dogs are often capable of being trained to avoid certain parts of a home when they first arrive, so it might be a good idea to choose which parts of the house you want your animals to inhabit before you bring one in to the family.

This means fitting out a certain part of the house with a bed for your pet to sleep in, a place to eat and somewhere to go to the toilet (preferably not the kitchen).

Getting your pet used to being in a single room provides them with a feeling of security, meaning they are far less likely to start exploring the entire house.

You need to make sure you groom your pets effectively so they don’t start scratching their fur off. Fur that has been dispensed by your pet can be particularly difficult to get rid of, so it’s vital you keep your animal thoroughly checked over for any mites, lice or ticks.

Another cause for regular scratching is a lack of exercise, especially with dogs. Cats are often capable of roaming free should you let them do so, whilst dogs are given far less freedom. It’s absolutely essential that you take your dog out for walks and preferably the odd run to completely wear them out during the overnight period.

If you have succumbed to animal fur being scattered across your carpets and the surrounding fabrics on a regular basis, you might want to consider a high quality vacuum cleaner. This will keep your home looking neat in the short term, however much fur appears in your house.

Unfortunately, animals are capable of unintentionally leaving allergens present in households, which can be bad for a person’s health. Apple Clean have made ridding allergens from homes an extremely vital part of our cleaning services, as you don’t want to have to deal with constant allergic reactions to your dearest pet.

In the long haul, it’s important that you keep on top of your pets behaviour in the house and maybe take a few extra steps to stop the relationship with your pet becoming a real issue.

If you have any questions surrounding carpet, upholstery or other fabric cleaning services for houses with pets, Apple Clean would be happy to hear from you. We provide services across the region from Surrey to West Sussex.
